The North Face Explore Fund Invites Community Voting to Determine a $25,000 Award to the Yellowstone Park Foundation’s Park Journeys Program
Park Journeys supports efforts to increase outdoor exploration among urban and rural youth.
Bozeman, MT, June 27, 2013 — The North Face has named the Yellowstone Park Foundation (YPF) a 2013 Top 10 Explore Fund $10,000 grantee recipient for their Park Journeys program. The grant will increase to $25,000 if enough Park Journeys supporters vote for the organization by July 31, 2013 on The North Face’s Facebook page at www.bit.ly/TNFExploreFund.
By allowing the public to vote for their favorite organization, the North Face is giving the public a chance to be directly involved in supporting great causes. After votes are tallied, the top five organizations garnering the most votes will be awarded $25,000, and the remaining five nonprofits will receive $10,000 grants.
The Explore Fund’s mission is to support the next generation of explorers by funding nonprofit organizations that are working to connect children with nature. By encouraging youth to lead an active, healthy lifestyle, and protect our natural landscapes, a stronger connection to the outdoors can be nurtured.
The Yellowstone Park Foundation’s Park Journeys program offers urban and rural youth from across the U.S. the opportunity to come to Yellowstone for an unforgettable five-day experience that inspires stewardship, nurtures leadership and encourages academic potential among youth whose opportunities in nature have been limited. The program is made possible by a collaboration among four organizations Manchester Bidwell Corporation, The Yellowstone Park Foundation, the Yellowstone Association and Yellowstone National Park.
The Yellowstone Park Foundation was selected by The North Face from 500 applications submitted in 2013 because of its commitment to inspire youth to become tomorrow’s stewards of Yellowstone National Park, one of the world’s premier outdoor classrooms. To view YPF’s Park Journeys video and vote for this program, visit The North Face’s Facebook page at www.bit.ly/TNFExploreFund.
All of The North Face Explore Fund recipients were chosen based on their commitment to one of three different focus areas: access to front and back country recreation, education for personal and environmental health, and creating a connection to nature that will empower the future leaders of tomorrow. To compete for votes for the $25,000 grant award, the top 10 organizations were asked to create a video “anthem” about their program, and explain how it connects youth to the outdoors.
Those looking to support the Yellowstone Park Foundation’s quest to offer youth a life-changing experience in Yellowstone National Park can vote once a day through July 31, 2013. Winners will be announced on August 1, 2013, at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market trade show in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Since the Explore Fund was initiated in 2010, The North Face has provided more than $1 million in global grants to nonprofits that connect youth to the outdoors, with more than $75,000 of that amount going to programs in the United States.
