Tower Fall Trail ReconstructionTower Fall was a mandatory stop for tourists and explorers even before Yellowstone was made the world's first national park. Today, hundreds of thousands of people visit the fall each year. Not long ago, the trail to Tower Fall was in deplorable condition. Switchback cuts scarred the hillside; many railings, steps, and wood crib walls were rotting or absent; the creek has washed out retaining walls along the final stretch of the trail; and general drainage along the trail was absent or inadequate to prevent erosion. A National Park Service trail crew repaired damage, installed and upgraded railings and steps, rebuilt rock walls, and replaced old wood cribbing with rock walls. The trail is now safer for visitors and the fragile area around Tower Fall has been restored and preserved.Total funds raised for the project: $21,660 |
