Online Roving Rangers
"Inside Yellowstone" and "Yellowstone InDepth" are a wonderful new way to visit Yellowstone. These web videos, the first of 31 which were released in January 2007, are electronic guides to features of the Park. They are available on the Park's official website and as podcasts for gratuitous download from iTunes. Viewers can watch them on their computer or download them to portable devices such as iPods to guide their trip in Yellowstone. As of March 2007, the "Yellowstone InDepth" podcast was ranked the 10th most popular podcast on iTunes, surpassing competing podcasts from National Public Radio, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, the New Yorker, BBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS. The "Inside Yellowstone" podcast ranked 1st in the iTunes subcategory ‘Places & Travel’ and 5th under ‘Society & Culture’. The Yellowstone Park Foundation is raising $103,890 to fund the production of at least 25 more “Inside Yellowstone” and five more “Yellowstone InDepth” web videos. Based on the preliminary success of this project, web videos proven to be are an effective way to connect people to parks, capture the public’s imagination, and engage audiences that may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit Yellowstone.
