Online Roving Rangers"Inside Yellowstone" and "Yellowstone InDepth" are wonderful new ways to visit Yellowstone. These web videos, the first 31 of which were released in January 2007, are electronic guides to features of the Park. They are available on the Park's official website and as podcasts for free download from iTunes. Viewers can watch them on their computer or download them to portable devices such as iPods to guide their trip in Yellowstone. Shortly after the launch of the series, the "Yellowstone InDepth" podcast was ranked the 10th most popular podcast on iTunes, surpassing competing podcasts from National Public Radio, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, the New Yorker, BBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS. The "Inside Yellowstone" podcast ranked 1st in the iTunes subcategory 'Places & Travel' and 5th under 'Society & Culture'. Since 2007, The Yellowstone Park Foundation raised $110,000 to fund the production of 50 more "Inside Yellowstone" and five more "Yellowstone InDepth" web videos. Based on the success of this project, web videos have proven to be an effective way to connect people to parks, capture the public's imagination, and engage audiences that may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit Yellowstone. In 2008, Yellowstone National Park was the sole recipient of the prestigious Freeman Tilden award given annually by the National Park Service in recognition of Yellowstone's innovative media products, including the "Inside Yellowstone" and "Yellowstone InDepth" web videos. Major project support was given by Canon U.S.A. through its Eyes on Yellowstone program.Total Project Cost: $110,000 View "Inside Yellowstone" videos >> View "Yellowstone InDepth" videos>> |
