Teacher to Ranger to Teacher (TRT) Program
The Teacher to Ranger to Teacher (TRT) Program helps the National Park Service encourage all Americans, irrespective of ethnicity or socioeconomic circumstance, to connect to their national heritage. It offers summer ranger positions to teachers from schools with diverse student populations who have little experience with national parks or opportunity to explore the relevance of places like Yellowstone to their lives. They spend the summer working in a national park performing a range of educational activities, from staffing a visitor center desk, to leading walking tours, to presenting Junior Ranger programs. When the Teacher-Rangers return to their schools in the fall, they have resources, inspiration and enthusiasm for bringing the Park into the classroom. Contributions to the program will help Yellowstone enhance their recruitment efforts, increase the very modest teacher stipend, and provide hands-on teaching tools for participants to bring back to their schools.
Total Project Cost: $2,500 for summer 2010
Funds Still Needed: $2,500
