Design Charrette for Old Faithful Area
The most popular destination in Yellowstone, the Old Faithful area receives an estimated 90% of the Park's total annual visitation. With this popularity comes rising problems of traffic and people congestion, and unintended impacts to the sensitive surrounding natural resources. To address these challenges, the Park will engage academic and professional planning communities in a charrette—a proven design technique to tap into interdisciplinary expertise and encourage synergistic, creative ideas and solutions. If funds are successfully raised, several professional design firms and academic institutions will join the Park’s Comprehensive Planning and Design staff for up to a week to prepare design solutions for the Old Faithful area. In total, professional and academic participants will contribute almost $300,000 of in-kind consulting. Donated funds will provide for participants' travel expenses and the production of the final report.
